The first visiting lecturer we had visit was Mark Wright who is a practising artist and works at Liverpool John Moores University. He spoke about embodiment a lot and how the soul explores the world, I quite liked Mark’s work, as they are beautiful, colourful pieces and like an alien landscape. The effect of his work is so calming and relaxing that you actually want to enter this world. His work evokes a feeling of being in a magical dream, one you don’t want to wake up from. His use of close up photography on landscape is stunning and captivating and allows your mind to wander into a wonderful place. I like his clever use of it looking out of focus, but some parts focused too. I think his work is clever as he believes “technology plays an important role to provide new ’embodiments’ which provide new ways of thinking, acting and being.” He also linked embodiment to how tools can be part of the self, like a paintbrush for example can be looked at as an artists technology. His work definitely opened my mind up to new ideas, however even though I like his work, I don’t think it has inspired me in anyway as our art is completely different besides the use of bold colours. I also didn’t see the passion within the artist, and I truly feel inspired when I can see someone that puts heart into their work (not saying he isn’t passionate he definitely works extremely hard) I just want to e excited by the art. I do appreciate the more technical side of his work, but I however work in a more intuitive way with not lots of research before hand.
